Moray -Maras and Salt Mines
This is an interesting tour to visit places that were used as agricultural experimental center (Moray) and for the salt production to the Incas (Salineras – salt mines), This has been serving until nowadays and consists of 3,000 small salt pools. Near there is a famous village where colonial houses gates have particular designs (Maras).
The tour starts in the morning, we will pick you up from the hotel at 8:20 am and then we will go by bus to the archaeological site of Moray, located about 7 km from Maras. Moray is a group of circular terraces with different sizes, which at Incas’ time were used as an agricultural experimental center; right there they performed their studies of plant adaptation to new ecosystems. Moray is seen as the superposition of concentric stone rings expand as it rises; the total depth is a 150 m.
Continuing the tour we will go to the picturesque town of Maras, located 52 km from Cusco at an altitude of 3,380 m; the importance of this place is that today this quaint village stores attractive pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican period, emphasizing in the town colonial streets and doorways with coats of nobles and chiefs of the century XVII y XVIII.
We will also visit the salt mines, composed about 3000 small wells approximately 5 m ² from where the salt is extracted then drying salt water from an underground spring. The “Maras” have been exploited since Incas time so that it were used as a mean of economic exchange.
Each place you visit has spectacular scenaries; After the tour we return to Cusco, all the tour lasts about 5 hours, you’ll be bac at about 14.30 hrs in Cusco.
